43% of the web is built on WordPress! So that’s often the default selection for landing pages, and we’ve certainly used it a ton.
But, over the last 5 years at ParaCore, we’ve become big fans of Unbounce.
But when it comes to your business, which is the smarter choice when you’re looking to build quality, high-converting landing pages?
We’ve got years of experience with both platforms, so let’s break down what we’ve noted about working with each!
WordPress is free to download and use.
This is the big one, right here. What’s better than free? Something that costs nothing is always appealing when you’re a small business owner; one less line item, right?
But one thing you’ve likely learned in business is that free rarely equals easy. And that’s true in this case if you don’t have coding experience.
See, that’s the trick with WordPress; sure, it’s free, but you’ll likely need some development skills to get the page to look exactly the way you want.
Basically, if you want to customize, you’ve got to code. Otherwise, you have to submit to the specific layout of the theme you’re using.
And on that note:
WordPress offers thousands of themes to choose from, but the designs aren’t optimized for conversion. A successful landing page must be conversion-friendly, there’s no getting around it.
It’s not just any old website; the purpose of a landing page is to receive campaign traffic for a specific objective or goal.
So, if your landing page hasn’t been specifically built to entice customers into your sales funnel and convert them, the whole project is a waste of time. And it takes more than some splashy graphics and a call-to-action (CTA) button to make it conversion-friendly, unfortunately.
There’s no WordPress customer service, just a toll-free phone number, and forums to scroll through for answers – if you can find them. They say it right on their website: “With a little sleuthing, you will likely find the answers to many of your queries.”
Do you have time for that? We sure don’t.
Even if you’re a pro, and it’s not likely you’ll get stuck in the process of building your landing page, it’s still desirable to have the option of immediate help.
Sure, if you pay for a WordPress plan, they have ‘Happiness Engineers’ available via email and live chat support. But that dampens the whole ‘free’ charm that WordPress pushes, doesn’t it?
Other not-so-great features of WordPress:
If you want to do A/B testing of your landing page, WordPress requires the installation of third-party plug-ins. A/B testing is the crux of any successful landing page campaign. The last thing you need is that process to be complicated by clunky plug-ins.
Want a basic SSL certificate? That requires a plug-in and installation, too, unless you’re on a hosting plan.
Plus, WordPress themes need to be constantly updated to maintain security. Your WordPress landing page will only be as secure as the amount of effort that you’re putting into it.
When you look at all these facts, WordPress is sounding like more and more work, isn’t it?
It begs the question: is ‘free’ worth it when you have to invest so much time and energy into massaging that ‘free’ project to life?
It’s a platform that marketing agencies have quickly jumped on and for good reason. Unbounce is a solid platform that we’ve launched dozens of landing pages through, with fantastic results.
But first, let’s get the bad news out of the way (and keep scrolling for the good news!)
No freebies; Unbounce is a subscription model. Let’s just be upfront about it; you must pay to use this platform, and it might be a bit of sticker shock to compare to WordPress. Here are the prices as of winter 2021:
That’s a bummer, we know, especially when a free or fairly cheap option like WordPress is out there.
But remember what we said easier, how free doesn’t equal easy?
In this case, a subscription gives you access to so many things to boost your landing page project, like several options for customer service (chat, email, phone, guides), automatic SSL encryption, and security updates.
How we see it: all the man-hours needed to manage this project? They’ve just gotten dramatically shorter, and they keep going down as we move ahead.
Plus, here’s the good news! When you click this link, you’ll receive 20% off your first three months (or 20% off a full year) with Unbounce!
Unbounce theme options are optimized for conversion. The company’s philosophy is ‘data-driven, conversion-focused marketing.’ There’s no guesswork here; these themes were designed for one purpose: to sell.
Can you say the same for your average WordPress theme?
With Unbounce, there’s no shortage of choices, with over 100 high-converting templates to choose from, the drag-and-drop interface allows for easy customization, plus the themes are pre-packed with conversion-optimizing tools, keyword insertion, and popups.
Unlimited A/B testing is already built into the platform. Plus, they offer something called Smart Copy, where you can instantly write, remix, and expand on-brand content for everything from landing pages to ads and emails in seconds.
In addition, they offer a free Landing Page Analysis Tool to measure your page’s effectiveness, whether you’re a customer or not!
If you’re already deeply skilled in using WordPress, our hat’s off to you. But for us at ParaCore, Unbounce has been a real gamechanger, and it shows in boosted conversion rates and most recent case studies. So we highly recommend giving it a shot!
Send us a note; we’re here to help!
